Feeding
Babies
For advice about Hand Rearing babies see here
This baby hedgehog needed
feeding by hand every 2 hours day and night
for the first 2 weeks of his life. Then every
4 hours for the next 2 weeks until he could
lap on his own.
He was one of a litter of 5, who all needed
hand feeding. They are fed on a milk
substitute called Esbilac, which is the
closest thing to natural hedgehog milk.
Esbilac is very expensive to buy, because it
has to be imported from the United States and
costs over £25 for each container of
powdered milk.
It takes 2 or 3 containers to rear a litter
of 5 baby hedgehogs from 2/3 days old until
they are weaned at about 5 or 6 weeks old and
able to take solid foods.
Please help us to rear more baby hedgehogs by
donating to buy
this essential milk. |
